A Welsh Dragon

I delivered this special birthday cake to Issaquah this afternoon. The cake's recipient has Welsh ancestry, so we decided on a design that incorporated a handcut gumpaste Welsh dragon on top. 


The 5-inch top tier is Coconut Passion, and the 7-inch bottom tier is Lemon Pucker. Both tiers were frosted with Swiss meringue buttercream, and the cake serves 16 people generously.


Red gumpaste rope trim surrounds the base of each tier, and the bottom tier is adorned with four handmade gumpaste scabiosa flowers. They were extremely fiddly to make, but their delicate, frilly petals are just so beautiful... I love them!
